work permits
There are separate work permit arrangements for:
- Business and Commercial jobs
- Training and Work Experience (TWES)
- Sports People and Entertainers (ENTS)
- Student Internships
Exemptions
The following are persons who do not require a Work Permit to work in the United Kingdom:
- Citizens of countries in the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA includes all member states of the EU. Iceland and Norway
- Swiss Nationals, following Bilateral Agreement between EU and Switzerland
- Citizens of the Commonwealth with UK ancestry, provided they can establish they have at least 1 grandparent who was born in the UK and who was a British Citizen
- Spouses of Work Permit holders
- Gibraltarians
- Spouses and unmarried partners of UK Nationals who have obtained appropriate
Entry Clearance/ Permission to remain
Eligibility can be established if any of the following apply:
- there is a UK based employer
- the individual is going to be an employee of the UK employer
- the employer is providing a service and not just personnel
- the pay and conditions of employment are equal to those normally to give a resident worker doing similar work
Skills and Experience
An applicant must show that the employee has the correct level of skills and experience to carry out the job
