York College of Law Pro Bono Prize Giving 8th November 2007
hallidayreeves LAW FIRM sponsored the first ever awards at the College of Law, York for services to Pro Bono work, legal support and services provided free of charge
Extracts from the College of Law Press Release:
“The prizes are sponsored by local firm Halliday Reeves which specialises in Immigration and Asylum work and has offices in the North East and Doncaster. Much of the Pro Bono work at the York Centre of the College of Law is carried out in Doncaster. For the last five years the College of Law has worked in partnership with groups and residents from the Doncaster New Deal for Communities area and has been partially funded by the NDC. Other work takes place in York and Leeds through a range of partner agencies including Castlegate Centre for young people, York CAB, HARP – Housing Advice Resource Project North Yorkshire and the Refugee Council.” Our Comments:
Congratulations to both prize winners!
As a practice, we recognise the importance of Pro Bono work. It provides a valuable opportunity for ‘people in need’ to access legal advice when they can’t afford to pay and an equally valuable opportunity for our future solicitors to sharpen their legal knowledge in the real world.
A ‘give’ and ‘take’ situation with a truly win/win outcome for both participants.
We are delighted to work with the College of Law students and to support the Prize acknowledging and rewarding their services to Pro Bono work.
